Transportation to the beginning of the course: You can arrive to Selçuk, 86 km away from Konak, via the İzmir - Aydın highway. Take the Selçuk - Efes - Kuşadası exit on the highway and drive towards Selçuk - Kuşadası direction. 16 km later, you are at the district center. There are regular bus and train services for those who wish to use public transportation. You can go to the İzmir Basmane Train Station and take the TCDD (Turkish State Railways) train that go to Aydın. You can also go to commuter train system İZBAN's Cumaovası transfer station and first take the Torbalı bus numbered 718; and then take the Selçuk bus numbered 770 from there. Another option can be taking the Selçuk or Kuşadası buses from the İzmir bus terminal.
Details of the course: You can start your tour by visiting the Selçuk - Efes Urban Recollection Museum. Afterwards, you can see two olive extraction sites left from the Roman Period, located at the St.Jean Monument within St. Jean Church. One site has no pressing stone and the other one does. Likewise there is a footing stone in the St.Jean Monument. Various stones collected from different places of excavation are brought together and displayed in the cistern.
One of the other sites worth seeing in Selçuk is the Pollio Water Aqueduct left from the Roman Period. The ancient caravan road is situated between Ephesus and the Greater Menderes magnesia. The water line starts from Tire Küçükkale. The Aqueduct was built by the Pollio Family in order to cross the Marnas Stream.
Except from the old olive oil atelier situated at the address 46/A, and shut down after 1980, there are two olive pressing stones. When you proceed to the village cemetery, you can see two olive trees aged between 500 - 600 years as well as a historical fountain in front of the cemetery.
The "Mathematics Village" in Şirince, established in 2007, was, at first only, intended for university students; however due to the intense interest only a year later it has opened its doors to students from every level varying from elementary to high school. Moreover, the Theater School located on a 6 decare land just near the Mathematics Village is also worth visiting.
