BLUE ROUTE
The Ionians, the master sailors of history, have established cities along the shores of the Peninsula far beyond their era. They dominated sea trade in the Antique Age. It was not a coincidence that Limantepe, the first-known port of the world, was built in today’s Urla. The capital of the state of Asia, Ephesus, had become a bridge between Asia Minor and the Roman Empire. One of the largest ports of the east, Erythrai, extended the network of maritime trade all the way to Egypt. The first known winery of the Anatolia, in Bağlararası Çeşme, was right next to an archaic port. The wine produced by the Hittites and the Cretans were also exported.
The sea of the Peninsula which exists on such a broad heritage is becoming more active with the “Blue Route”. We are supporting the sea tourism by presenting information on beaches, sea sports, camping sites, fishing ports and line fishing. We are preparing the beach inventory of the Peninsula. This inventory includes some features like the blue flag and certification of the beaches, swimming water, aquatic sports, beach sports, lifeguards and wireless internet services. We are integrating the Blue Route with the intercity sea transportation of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality.
Everything related to the sea, from fishing to transportation and from tourism to sports, is being enhanced within the framework of the Blue Route. The elements of the Blue Route are as follows:
Coastal islands: Yassıcaada, Karantina Island and Hekimada for excursions and sea sports activities.
Aegean islands: Chios and Samos islands in order to facilitate historical and cultural relations and sea transportation.
Sea Sports: Sailing races, diving, line fishing, Urla Kum Denizi Water Sports Center.
Sea tourism: Sea festivals, Urla Underwater Archaeology Museum, ancient sea routes with Kiklad and İzmir boats.
SEA TRANSPORTATION
One of the purposes of the Blue Route is to form a connection between the Peninsula and Phokai (Foça), Chios and Samos. The current Mordoğan - Foça ferry trips fulfil a stage of this purpose. As for the second stage, we aim to provide the sea transportation between Chios (Sakız) and Samos (Sisam) islands possible. The following are about the current conditions of the ferry quays:
Güzelbahçe: İzmir Metropolitan Municipality is carrying out the necessary works to make the current ferry quay appropriate to the new ships.
Foça: The necessary passenger platforms were constructed so that our new ships can approach. There are voyages from Konak and Karşıyaka ferry quays to Foça in the morning and evening hours on Saturdays and Sundays during summer.
Urla, Mordoğan and Karaburun: The place that the ships will approach was determined for the scheduled voyages and the works to make them appropriate started. Besides, there are Foça-Karaburun-Mordoğan voyages of TURYOL Cooperative during summer.
BEACHES AND COVES
Seferihisar
Many excursion tourism sites around Teos ensure to experience culture and sea tourism together. Akarca is opposite the ancient port, on the second kilometer of the Seferihisar – Kuşadası road and its name was derived from the fresh water source flowing along the sea. Ekmeksiz, a forest resting area around Sığacık Port, has a facility appropriate for one-day tourism. Akkum beaches in Sığacık are close to Teos, too. Çamlık picnic area at a 50 km distance to İzmir and 5 km distance to Seferihisar is located in a 10 hectare Turkish pine forest. This facility which is oriented to one-day tourism is close to Teos as well. Azmak Bay in Turgut is a haunt for people who are interested in amateur free-diving and spear fishing. Doğanbey Kargıcak Cove, which has a 7 km distance to Seferihisar and 50 km distance to İzmir, is a camping and trailer site appropriate for tenting. İpekkum Beach which has sands like in its name (“ipek” meaning “silk” and “kum” meaning “sand” in Turkish) is in Ürkmez.
Karaburun
Some beaches are arrived to by the highway and some are arrived to by boats. Akvaryum (İncirlikoy) and Kuyucak beaches have blue flags. Bodrum Cove, Mimoza Beach and two beaches in İskele are close to the town center. Büyükada, Küçükada, Kuyucak, Dolungaz, Bozköyaltı, Olucabük, Eşendere and Bodrum Bays can be traveled to by the fishing boats from Saipaltı, 2 km to the center. Küçükbahçe, Denizgiren, Yıldızkent, Akçakilise, İğdealtı, Büyükkent, Badembükü and Yeniliman are peaceful and tranquil and are far from the center. Moreover, Kumbükü, Dikencik and Kocadere are natural coves.
The Manal Cove in Mordoğan is suitable for both amateur anglers and those who want to take a break with its quiet, tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. This cove which is only known by those who are interested is like a shelter and is a resting area for sailors.
Çeşme
Along the 29 km long coastline, there are about 20 beaches. The almost 2 km long Ilıca Beach is a tourism center with its sands and healing thermal waters springing from Yıldızburnu. The sea which does not deepen until 100 m off the shore is ideal for parents. The Tanay picnic area, 8 km to Çeşme and is surrounded byTurkish pines, stone pines and maritime pines in a 70 hectare area near Ilıca Beach, is suitable for one-day tourism. There are thermal baths and mineral springs in Şifne at a 5 km distance in the Ilıca-İzmir direction. Ayayorgi is the oldest beach among the 5 km-long beaches of Boyalık Cove in the north of Çeşme. Çiftlikköy which is at a 5 km distance to Çeşme is in the south and southwest of Çeşme and is noted for windsurfing, its natural beaches and fish restaurants. Pırlanta, Altınkum and Tursite beaches exist around Çiftlikköy. Kite surfing is performed in Pırlanta Beach. Altınkum, in a 15 hectare area, is also a picnic area that has all kinds of equipment. Dalyan and Germiyan Bays and Ildırı Gulf are other sea options. Eşek Island, Ayrıktaş, Monem Wreck, Fener Island and Ildırı are favorable for diving. There is a well-equipped picnic facility which can host a thousand people per day in Uzunkuyu located in the Turkish pine forest on the 60th kilometer of the Çeşme highway.
Urla
In addition to Yassıcaada and Karantina Islands, you can also prefer the beaches of Kum Denizi in İskele, Çeşmealtı Blue Beach, Camp of Turkish State Railways, İçmeler, Gülbahçe, Özbek and Demircili Bay. The depth of Kokarkoy in the south of Urla reaches 98 m in some places. Güvendik picnic area at a 55 km distance to İzmir is in a 15 hectare area in Çeşmealtı and has splendid views.
Aquatic Sports Center of Urla Kum Denizi
The Kum Denizi beach in Urla, İskele was restored by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality; it was arranged as an unimpeded and modern beach with a number of activities. The 950 m long coastal area includes a park for aquatic sports, areas for sport, walking and playground, a bicycle road, shower cabins, changing rooms, restrooms, coffee houses, green area and parking lots.
Yassıcaada
The island off of Urla became a popular place for one-day tourism thanks to the facilities and arrangements carried out by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. The island which is arrived to by the İZDENİZ ferries during June and September attracts many people with its clean sea and peaceful environment.
Güzelbahçe
The closest beach preferred by the people of İzmir to swim is in the Siteler Neighborhood. There are beaches near the Area Traffic Management and in Maltepe, Altıevler and Yalı Neighborhoods. Sun terraces and picnic tables exist along the coastline.
Menderes
Kalemli Beach in a 40 hectare area between Özdere and Gümüldür is one of the most significant recreation sites of İzmir. It is surrounded with Turkish pines and oaks; its shores consist of rock and sands. It possesses all the equipment for guests to camp. Forest camping in the 8 hectare coastline in Gümüldür is sought after as a tent camping and one-day picnic area thanks to its clean sea and wide sands. The Denizpınarı forest resting area is in a beautiful bay in the Ahmetbeyli-Gümüldür coast. The bay which is close to Klaros has amazing sea views.
Selçuk
The Pamucak Forest Resting Area on the 8th kilometer of the Selçuk-Kuşadası road is 82 km to İzmir. The area that contains a country tavern, picnic unit and beach is also close to Ephesus and The House of Virgin Mary.
ARTIFICIAL REEF IMPLEMENTATIONS and LINE FISHING
The artificial reef implementations enlivening underwater life are also excitedly anticipated on the surface. These specially designed mini structures submerged for fish to nest in give great results. The aim with the artificial reef implementation is to support coastal fishing, increase biological variety, create new sites for amateur fishing and diving tourism, hinder illegal fishing, prevent shore erosion originating from waves, eliminate the lack of lost or damaged habitat to a certain extent and to do scientific researches.
As a result of this endeavor, the species and subgroups of fish double in number. The artificial reef projects prepared by Ege University Urla Vocational School of Higher Education have been implemented in Dalyanköy, Ürkmez, Gümüldür and Pamucak. 64 kinds of fish have been detected in the observations done in Gümüldür, Ürkmez and Dalyanköy artificial reefs in the past 18 months. This number means 16 percent of the bony fish in Turkey, and 20 percent of the bony fish of the Aegean Sea.
DIVING POINTS
Çeşme
Monem Wreck (Monem Batığı): The 75 meter long, 13.5 meter wide freighter Monem, built in Nürnberg Germany, is in Dalyanköy and is arrived to by sea in 10 minutes. In November 2004, while being hauled to Aliağa to be taken apart, it sunk offshore Çeşme when the towing line snapped due to a storm. Since then, it has been a shelter for marine animals and a diving attraction for divers. The ship, laying on its 18 m underwater haul, is the largest wreck that can be dived into in Turkey. On convenient weather conditions, it presents its hospitality to hundreds of divers of every brevet levels throughout the year. Those who are not trained for scuba diving can snorkel. The propeller and the rudder frame are passed by when coming to the stern of the ship. The cabins can be looked into from the portholes by rearing along the stern and deck. One level above the deck is a wide area where 20 divers can be present at the same time. The wheelhouse has two doors and one of them is used for an entrance while the other is used for exit. Afterwards, the ship is passed across from the foredeck lockers, 8-9 meters. After a safety break on either the 5 meter vents or on the prow, a return is made to the boat with the guideline. Of course it is important to remember that the ship is made up of metal and to not touch anything or enter closed spaces. Big scorpion-fish, leer fish and other fish of the Aegean Sea can be observed in the Monem Wreck. Providing perfect compositions for underwater photographers and for the ones shooting videos, with its annually increasing living creatures and changing image, it is a wonderful diving site.
Yarık Rock (Ayrık Stone) [Split Rock]: The 3 course diving site gets its name from a large piece of rock which split about one meter from land. The 35 m-42 m part is for advanced divers. Lobsters and nets settled into the coves create a very beautiful image. The wall, starting at 18 m from the land extending to 26 m, is an area with lots of lobsters and crawfish.
Yatak Island: The 40 meter deep site is famous for its spectacular cave at around 8-10 meters. The arch which is passed before the cave, sponges in the entrance of the cave and inside the cave, corals and insects nesting on the walls offer a visual feast. The light seeping from above the cave creates a magnificent view. The island which is also visited by the Mediterranean seals is generally preferred for the last dive of the day.
Fener Island: The island which has utmost 15-18 m bottom depth is ideal for those who enjoy free-flow diving. If lucky, you can come across the island’s habitual visitors, seals. The two diving sites around the island are usually used for second dives. Within the territory of the island, bearing all kinds of corals and sponges, small school fish like bream and salema embellish the dive. There are a couple of old sea caves in the island where seals are sometimes observed. If you confront the seals which are under protection, do not approach them.
Göbek Stone: The wall of the reef, located in the coral straight of Eşek Island and spread across a wide area, begins at around the 16th meter and stretches out to 55 meters. The area, preferred in mild weathers, forms a beautiful sight with its rocks rising from the middle of a sandy bottom. Leer fish, sea bream and barracuda can be seen around this region. The area, suitable for advanced divers, calls for caution against the currents. It should not be dived if the stream is violent.
Eşek Island: Although there are many diving sites around the island, formerly known as Goni Island, the split rock site is the most beautiful part of the island. The depth is around 50-60 meters. Especially its east wall, where the depth begins at around 20 meters and goes down to 40 meters, is a site where every diver will want to see.
Stones of 88: The place in the south of Eşek Island is especially preferred during the northeaster wind. The rocky bottom structure starts at 20 meters in this place that has a 43 meter bottom depth. Octopi, fan mussels and cuttlefish among the reeds draw attention. Almost on the 30th meter, there are many amphoras, dated to the Roman Empire. It is highly possible to see moray eel among the amphora. Brown meager, as a school, and lobsters exist. It has some parts suitable for both advanced and beginner divers.
Noname: The part of Makri Island that faces south and Dalyanköy is called Noname. The diving point that is preferred during the northeaster is ideal for beginner divers and training and expert dives. It is likely to see plenty of sargo and black breams at this point with a bottom depth of 15 m. If you are lucky, you can see seahorse among the sea grass.
Patlak Stone: As the reef which has half metric overflow into the surface of the water from the south of Eşek Island to Dalyanköy is in the open sea, diving is not possible in all weather conditions. It has a bottom structure which is composed of a wall extending to about 16 m and of scattered rock pieces. In this point, you can some fish such as black bream, sea bream, dusky grouper and moray eel. Schools of barracuda and leer fish can occasionally be observed.
Barracuda Stones: This diving point is very close to the Makri islands and has a beautiful bottom structure lying from 10 meters to 50 meters. It contains a very rich and colorful underwater life. If you are lucky, you can see schools of barracuda. After arriving to the 12 m long ground, diving is performed towards east by following a circular route. Experienced divers may confront common dentex and shade-fish in the depths.
Orkinos Farm: It is located off of the Gerence Gulf. The giant tunas of 300-600 kg offer a great diving experience. The depth of each cage is approximately 30 m. There are almost 1000 fish in each cage. This extraordinary diving is performed in order, with groups comprised of five people. It is possible to get detailed information about the fish from the diving guides and this diving point can be dived in in August and September.
Ildırı Cave Reef: This reef which was opened for diving in 2004 is one of the most beautiful diving points. There is about a 70 m long wall from south to north on the part facing west. The wall lies from 12 meters to 35 meters. There are 3 connected caves on the 21st meter. In these caves, there are two 12 m deep chimneys. Almost all kinds of fish can be observed. It is not suitable for inexperienced divers go into the cave because of the bottom structure.
Ildırı Fener Island: Fener Island is very close to the cave reefs. It is full of very nice hollows and coves until 35-40 meters. There are great amounts of yellow tube sponges, red sponges and flower coral, and they create a spectacular view.

Karaburun
Fener Cape: This region, resembling a natural bay and is free from wind and wave, is used as a training site. Many damselfish and black breams live in 5-6 m deep while common dentex, moray eel and grouper live in 35 m deep.
Small Island (Küçük Ada): The west cape of the island where beginners have their first boat diving experience is a starfish berth… The light at 8-10 m deep is very appropriate for underwater photography. It can be dived in every weather condition and there are rips and amphoras in the 20-25 m depths of the island.
Big Island (Büyük Ada): It is comprised of natural walls that have a depth from 4 m to 50 m for professional divers. You can take great pictures with curious ornate wrasse and Mediterranean rainbow wrasse at 5-7 m deep of Kaçakçı Bay. The big rocks in the region of the Old Seal Nest (Eski Fok Yuvası) fall off to the sea and create amazing underwater views. There are small caves and canyons at 30 m deep. In “ev taşı 1” section, there are underwater wrecks between 8-12 meters.
Small Reef (Küçük Rif): There are plenty of amphora streams, parrotfish colonies and moray eels between the 4-27 meters in this region where you cannot dive in every weather condition.

WINDSURFING
The Alaçatı neighborhood of Çeşme is one of the three most important centers of windsurfing. Alaçatı’s natural port is cited as the most convenient place for windsurfing in the world with its calm sea in spite of the ceaseless wind. This region annually hosts many international championships such as the EFPT (European Freestyle Pro Tour) and the PWA (Professional Windsurfers Association). As the water is shallow, and the wind blows from the north starting from mid-June to mid-September and generally from the south between April-October and generates waves, becoming an interesting and secure bay. The region, whose prevailing wind is north, also has breeze, southwester, northeaster, and gerence winds throughout the year. Alaçatı is an ideal training area for beginner surfers. Windsurfing and kite surfing are also performed in Urla İçmeler, Seferihisar Akkum, Çandarlı and Foça. Çeşme Pırlanta Beach is also an important kite surfing center.

Coastal islands: Yassıcaada, Karantina Island and Hekimada for excursions and sea sports activities.

SEA TRANSPORTATION
One of the purposes of the Blue Route is to form a connection between the Peninsula and Phokai (Foça), Chios and Samos. The current Mordoğan - Foça ferry trips fulfil a stage of this purpose. As for the second stage, we aim to provide the sea transportation between Chios (Sakız) and Samos (Sisam) islands possible. The following are about the current conditions of the ferry quays:
Güzelbahçe: İzmir Metropolitan Municipality is carrying out the necessary works to make the current ferry quay appropriate to the new ships.
Foça: The necessary passenger platforms were constructed so that our new ships can approach. There are voyages from Konak and Karşıyaka ferry quays to Foça in the morning and evening hours on Saturdays and Sundays during summer.
Urla, Mordoğan and Karaburun: The place that the ships will approach was determined for the scheduled voyages and the works to make them appropriate started. Besides, there are Foça-Karaburun-Mordoğan voyages of TURYOL Cooperative during summer.
BEACHES AND COVES
Seferihisar
Many excursion tourism sites around Teos ensure to experience culture and sea tourism together. Akarca is opposite the ancient port, on the second kilometer of the Seferihisar – Kuşadası road and its name was derived from the fresh water source flowing along the sea. Ekmeksiz, a forest resting area around Sığacık Port, has a facility appropriate for one-day tourism. Akkum beaches in Sığacık are close to Teos, too. Çamlık picnic area at a 50 km distance to İzmir and 5 km distance to Seferihisar is located in a 10 hectare Turkish pine forest. This facility which is oriented to one-day tourism is close to Teos as well. Azmak Bay in Turgut is a haunt for people who are interested in amateur free-diving and spear fishing. Doğanbey Kargıcak Cove, which has a 7 km distance to Seferihisar and 50 km distance to İzmir, is a camping and trailer site appropriate for tenting. İpekkum Beach which has sands like in its name (“ipek” meaning “silk” and “kum” meaning “sand” in Turkish) is in Ürkmez.
Karaburun
Some beaches are arrived to by the highway and some are arrived to by boats. Akvaryum (İncirlikoy) and Kuyucak beaches have blue flags. Bodrum Cove, Mimoza Beach and two beaches in İskele are close to the town center. Büyükada, Küçükada, Kuyucak, Dolungaz, Bozköyaltı, Olucabük, Eşendere and Bodrum Bays can be traveled to by the fishing boats from Saipaltı, 2 km to the center. Küçükbahçe, Denizgiren, Yıldızkent, Akçakilise, İğdealtı, Büyükkent, Badembükü and Yeniliman are peaceful and tranquil and are far from the center. Moreover, Kumbükü, Dikencik and Kocadere are natural coves.
The Manal Cove in Mordoğan is suitable for both amateur anglers and those who want to take a break with its quiet, tranquil and peaceful atmosphere. This cove which is only known by those who are interested is like a shelter and is a resting area for sailors.
Çeşme
Along the 29 km long coastline, there are about 20 beaches. The almost 2 km long Ilıca Beach is a tourism center with its sands and healing thermal waters springing from Yıldızburnu. The sea which does not deepen until 100 m off the shore is ideal for parents. The Tanay picnic area, 8 km to Çeşme and is surrounded byTurkish pines, stone pines and maritime pines in a 70 hectare area near Ilıca Beach, is suitable for one-day tourism. There are thermal baths and mineral springs in Şifne at a 5 km distance in the Ilıca-İzmir direction. Ayayorgi is the oldest beach among the 5 km-long beaches of Boyalık Cove in the north of Çeşme. Çiftlikköy which is at a 5 km distance to Çeşme is in the south and southwest of Çeşme and is noted for windsurfing, its natural beaches and fish restaurants. Pırlanta, Altınkum and Tursite beaches exist around Çiftlikköy. Kite surfing is performed in Pırlanta Beach. Altınkum, in a 15 hectare area, is also a picnic area that has all kinds of equipment. Dalyan and Germiyan Bays and Ildırı Gulf are other sea options. Eşek Island, Ayrıktaş, Monem Wreck, Fener Island and Ildırı are favorable for diving. There is a well-equipped picnic facility which can host a thousand people per day in Uzunkuyu located in the Turkish pine forest on the 60th kilometer of the Çeşme highway.
Urla
In addition to Yassıcaada and Karantina Islands, you can also prefer the beaches of Kum Denizi in İskele, Çeşmealtı Blue Beach, Camp of Turkish State Railways, İçmeler, Gülbahçe, Özbek and Demircili Bay. The depth of Kokarkoy in the south of Urla reaches 98 m in some places. Güvendik picnic area at a 55 km distance to İzmir is in a 15 hectare area in Çeşmealtı and has splendid views.
Aquatic Sports Center of Urla Kum Denizi
The Kum Denizi beach in Urla, İskele was restored by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality; it was arranged as an unimpeded and modern beach with a number of activities. The 950 m long coastal area includes a park for aquatic sports, areas for sport, walking and playground, a bicycle road, shower cabins, changing rooms, restrooms, coffee houses, green area and parking lots.
Yassıcaada
The island off of Urla became a popular place for one-day tourism thanks to the facilities and arrangements carried out by İzmir Metropolitan Municipality. The island which is arrived to by the İZDENİZ ferries during June and September attracts many people with its clean sea and peaceful environment.
Güzelbahçe
The closest beach preferred by the people of İzmir to swim is in the Siteler Neighborhood. There are beaches near the Area Traffic Management and in Maltepe, Altıevler and Yalı Neighborhoods. Sun terraces and picnic tables exist along the coastline.
Menderes
Kalemli Beach in a 40 hectare area between Özdere and Gümüldür is one of the most significant recreation sites of İzmir. It is surrounded with Turkish pines and oaks; its shores consist of rock and sands. It possesses all the equipment for guests to camp. Forest camping in the 8 hectare coastline in Gümüldür is sought after as a tent camping and one-day picnic area thanks to its clean sea and wide sands. The Denizpınarı forest resting area is in a beautiful bay in the Ahmetbeyli-Gümüldür coast. The bay which is close to Klaros has amazing sea views.
Selçuk
The Pamucak Forest Resting Area on the 8th kilometer of the Selçuk-Kuşadası road is 82 km to İzmir. The area that contains a country tavern, picnic unit and beach is also close to Ephesus and The House of Virgin Mary.
ARTIFICIAL REEF IMPLEMENTATIONS and LINE FISHING
The artificial reef implementations enlivening underwater life are also excitedly anticipated on the surface. These specially designed mini structures submerged for fish to nest in give great results. The aim with the artificial reef implementation is to support coastal fishing, increase biological variety, create new sites for amateur fishing and diving tourism, hinder illegal fishing, prevent shore erosion originating from waves, eliminate the lack of lost or damaged habitat to a certain extent and to do scientific researches.
As a result of this endeavor, the species and subgroups of fish double in number. The artificial reef projects prepared by Ege University Urla Vocational School of Higher Education have been implemented in Dalyanköy, Ürkmez, Gümüldür and Pamucak. 64 kinds of fish have been detected in the observations done in Gümüldür, Ürkmez and Dalyanköy artificial reefs in the past 18 months. This number means 16 percent of the bony fish in Turkey, and 20 percent of the bony fish of the Aegean Sea.
DIVING POINTS
Çeşme
Monem Wreck (Monem Batığı): The 75 meter long, 13.5 meter wide freighter Monem, built in Nürnberg Germany, is in Dalyanköy and is arrived to by sea in 10 minutes. In November 2004, while being hauled to Aliağa to be taken apart, it sunk offshore Çeşme when the towing line snapped due to a storm. Since then, it has been a shelter for marine animals and a diving attraction for divers. The ship, laying on its 18 m underwater haul, is the largest wreck that can be dived into in Turkey. On convenient weather conditions, it presents its hospitality to hundreds of divers of every brevet levels throughout the year. Those who are not trained for scuba diving can snorkel. The propeller and the rudder frame are passed by when coming to the stern of the ship. The cabins can be looked into from the portholes by rearing along the stern and deck. One level above the deck is a wide area where 20 divers can be present at the same time. The wheelhouse has two doors and one of them is used for an entrance while the other is used for exit. Afterwards, the ship is passed across from the foredeck lockers, 8-9 meters. After a safety break on either the 5 meter vents or on the prow, a return is made to the boat with the guideline. Of course it is important to remember that the ship is made up of metal and to not touch anything or enter closed spaces. Big scorpion-fish, leer fish and other fish of the Aegean Sea can be observed in the Monem Wreck. Providing perfect compositions for underwater photographers and for the ones shooting videos, with its annually increasing living creatures and changing image, it is a wonderful diving site.
Yarık Rock (Ayrık Stone) [Split Rock]: The 3 course diving site gets its name from a large piece of rock which split about one meter from land. The 35 m-42 m part is for advanced divers. Lobsters and nets settled into the coves create a very beautiful image. The wall, starting at 18 m from the land extending to 26 m, is an area with lots of lobsters and crawfish.
Yatak Island: The 40 meter deep site is famous for its spectacular cave at around 8-10 meters. The arch which is passed before the cave, sponges in the entrance of the cave and inside the cave, corals and insects nesting on the walls offer a visual feast. The light seeping from above the cave creates a magnificent view. The island which is also visited by the Mediterranean seals is generally preferred for the last dive of the day.
Fener Island: The island which has utmost 15-18 m bottom depth is ideal for those who enjoy free-flow diving. If lucky, you can come across the island’s habitual visitors, seals. The two diving sites around the island are usually used for second dives. Within the territory of the island, bearing all kinds of corals and sponges, small school fish like bream and salema embellish the dive. There are a couple of old sea caves in the island where seals are sometimes observed. If you confront the seals which are under protection, do not approach them.
Göbek Stone: The wall of the reef, located in the coral straight of Eşek Island and spread across a wide area, begins at around the 16th meter and stretches out to 55 meters. The area, preferred in mild weathers, forms a beautiful sight with its rocks rising from the middle of a sandy bottom. Leer fish, sea bream and barracuda can be seen around this region. The area, suitable for advanced divers, calls for caution against the currents. It should not be dived if the stream is violent.
Eşek Island: Although there are many diving sites around the island, formerly known as Goni Island, the split rock site is the most beautiful part of the island. The depth is around 50-60 meters. Especially its east wall, where the depth begins at around 20 meters and goes down to 40 meters, is a site where every diver will want to see.
Stones of 88: The place in the south of Eşek Island is especially preferred during the northeaster wind. The rocky bottom structure starts at 20 meters in this place that has a 43 meter bottom depth. Octopi, fan mussels and cuttlefish among the reeds draw attention. Almost on the 30th meter, there are many amphoras, dated to the Roman Empire. It is highly possible to see moray eel among the amphora. Brown meager, as a school, and lobsters exist. It has some parts suitable for both advanced and beginner divers.
Noname: The part of Makri Island that faces south and Dalyanköy is called Noname. The diving point that is preferred during the northeaster is ideal for beginner divers and training and expert dives. It is likely to see plenty of sargo and black breams at this point with a bottom depth of 15 m. If you are lucky, you can see seahorse among the sea grass.
Patlak Stone: As the reef which has half metric overflow into the surface of the water from the south of Eşek Island to Dalyanköy is in the open sea, diving is not possible in all weather conditions. It has a bottom structure which is composed of a wall extending to about 16 m and of scattered rock pieces. In this point, you can some fish such as black bream, sea bream, dusky grouper and moray eel. Schools of barracuda and leer fish can occasionally be observed.
Barracuda Stones: This diving point is very close to the Makri islands and has a beautiful bottom structure lying from 10 meters to 50 meters. It contains a very rich and colorful underwater life. If you are lucky, you can see schools of barracuda. After arriving to the 12 m long ground, diving is performed towards east by following a circular route. Experienced divers may confront common dentex and shade-fish in the depths.
Orkinos Farm: It is located off of the Gerence Gulf. The giant tunas of 300-600 kg offer a great diving experience. The depth of each cage is approximately 30 m. There are almost 1000 fish in each cage. This extraordinary diving is performed in order, with groups comprised of five people. It is possible to get detailed information about the fish from the diving guides and this diving point can be dived in in August and September.
Ildırı Cave Reef: This reef which was opened for diving in 2004 is one of the most beautiful diving points. There is about a 70 m long wall from south to north on the part facing west. The wall lies from 12 meters to 35 meters. There are 3 connected caves on the 21st meter. In these caves, there are two 12 m deep chimneys. Almost all kinds of fish can be observed. It is not suitable for inexperienced divers go into the cave because of the bottom structure.
Ildırı Fener Island: Fener Island is very close to the cave reefs. It is full of very nice hollows and coves until 35-40 meters. There are great amounts of yellow tube sponges, red sponges and flower coral, and they create a spectacular view.

Karaburun
Fener Cape: This region, resembling a natural bay and is free from wind and wave, is used as a training site. Many damselfish and black breams live in 5-6 m deep while common dentex, moray eel and grouper live in 35 m deep.
Small Island (Küçük Ada): The west cape of the island where beginners have their first boat diving experience is a starfish berth… The light at 8-10 m deep is very appropriate for underwater photography. It can be dived in every weather condition and there are rips and amphoras in the 20-25 m depths of the island.
Big Island (Büyük Ada): It is comprised of natural walls that have a depth from 4 m to 50 m for professional divers. You can take great pictures with curious ornate wrasse and Mediterranean rainbow wrasse at 5-7 m deep of Kaçakçı Bay. The big rocks in the region of the Old Seal Nest (Eski Fok Yuvası) fall off to the sea and create amazing underwater views. There are small caves and canyons at 30 m deep. In “ev taşı 1” section, there are underwater wrecks between 8-12 meters.
Small Reef (Küçük Rif): There are plenty of amphora streams, parrotfish colonies and moray eels between the 4-27 meters in this region where you cannot dive in every weather condition.

WINDSURFING
The Alaçatı neighborhood of Çeşme is one of the three most important centers of windsurfing. Alaçatı’s natural port is cited as the most convenient place for windsurfing in the world with its calm sea in spite of the ceaseless wind. This region annually hosts many international championships such as the EFPT (European Freestyle Pro Tour) and the PWA (Professional Windsurfers Association). As the water is shallow, and the wind blows from the north starting from mid-June to mid-September and generally from the south between April-October and generates waves, becoming an interesting and secure bay. The region, whose prevailing wind is north, also has breeze, southwester, northeaster, and gerence winds throughout the year. Alaçatı is an ideal training area for beginner surfers. Windsurfing and kite surfing are also performed in Urla İçmeler, Seferihisar Akkum, Çandarlı and Foça. Çeşme Pırlanta Beach is also an important kite surfing center.
